It’s played in almost every country and is renowned for being involved with ludicrous amounts of money. This year alone over £1bn was spent on player transfers in the Premier League (England’s first division) and with companies like Sky and BT Sports having an increasing influence on the beautiful game, the commercialisation of English football is only set to increase. Planning my Article Sport (BBC Sport, Sky Sports, The Telegraph, Metro) Education Politics (BBC, The Guardian, Politics.co.uk, Politics Home) For a sports article, I could document the rise of non-league football as there are a number of small football clubs in my local area. I could also try and get an interview with a player from my local professional team who used to play for a non-league team. For an education article, I could discuss the funding issues with my old secondary school as it is rumoured to receive over 1 million pounds less than other schools. The article is obviously biased against the poachers, as poaching is illegal and widely frowned upon. Unit 7 LO1 – Understanding the news industry A media market is an area where the population can receive the same television and radio offerings; this may also include other types of media such as radio and Internet. Different news providers may choose to target a specific media market to increase the size of their audience. They may target a specific area due to the stereotypical political views of that area, or because that area contains a number of people of a certain ethnicity or another reason depending on the type of content that broadcaster produces.
