FIRST DRAFT The Rising Popularity of Non-league Football Football, the most popular sport in the world. It’s played in almost every country and is renowned for being involved with ludicrous amounts of money. This year alone over £1bn was spent on player transfers in the Premier League (England’s first division) and with companies like Sky and BT Sports having an increasing influence on the beautiful game, the commercialisation of English football is only set to increase. One of the most famous footballing quotes of all time was spoken by ex-Celtic manager Jock Stein “Football is nothing without fans” and despite the large amounts of money in the modern game, this quote still rings true. Many fans are choosing to leave behind the commercialist glamour of the professional game for something more real, something closer to what football was meant to be; a game for the working class where the players are ‘real people’, not celebrities and it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to go and w...

(FINAL) LO3: Be able to research and plan content for an article

Planning my Article Sport (BBC Sport, Sky Sports, The Telegraph, Metro) Education Politics (BBC, The Guardian, Politics.co.uk, Politics Home) For a sports article, I could document the rise of non-league football as there are a number of small football clubs in my local area. I could also try and get an interview with a player from my local professional team who used to play for a non-league team. For an education article, I could discuss the funding issues with my old secondary school as it is rumoured to receive over 1 million pounds less than other schools. LO3: Initial Ideas for Article In my article, I want to write about the rising popularity of non-league football. I wish to write about this topic as I have a keen interest in all aspects of football and am keen to find out what draws people to watch low budget, non-professional football instead of the "big money" professional game. To source information for my article, I will use reliable websites su...

Rare 50-year-old "giant tusker" elephant killed by poachers - leaving just 25 in the wild. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/03/07/rare-50-year-old-giant-tusker-elephant-killed-poachers-leaving/ The article is about a rare breed of large elephant that was killed by two poachers (who were later caught) in a Kenyan national park. The article is obviously biased against the poachers, as poaching is illegal and widely frowned upon. The purpose of the article is to inform the reader of the death of the rare elephant and to portray emotion as the article uses lots of emotive language. “ A Kenyan national park is in mourning” this is used to show the audience just how important this elephant was as it is usually people who are mourned, rarely animals and to say that the entire national park is in mourning helps portray the magnitude of the death. “The elephant was known as being very friendly, according to Tsavo National Park, and his tusks were so long they scraped th...

(FINAL) LO1: Understand the News Industry

Unit 7 LO1 – Understanding the news industry A media market is an area where the population can receive the same television and radio offerings; this may also include other types of media such as radio and Internet. Different news providers may choose to target a specific media market to increase the size of their audience. They may target a specific area due to the stereotypical political views of that area, or because that area contains a number of people of a certain ethnicity or another reason depending on the type of content that broadcaster produces. An example of a media provider that targets a specific market is Al Jazeera.  Also known as JSC, Al Jazeera is a Doha-based state-funded broadcaster owned by the Al Jazeera Media Network, which is partly funded by the House of Thani, the ruling family of Qatar. It reports its news in English but mainly focuses on Arab related topics such as the Syrian war and immigration. It covers these topics so it appeals to the Engli...
